JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The dry weather and warm temperatures across Northeast Florida mean there is an increased risk of wildfires.

The Florida Forest Service reports 21 active wildfires in Northeast Florida, burning 105 acres.

An active wildfire is a fire that is both actively burning and uncontained, or it may be contained by fire lines but still hot and smoking or smoldering, even though there are no active flames.

Fires are listed as active until they are completely out and cold with no smoking or smoldering. Until a fire is called out, it is carefully monitored by firefighters.

Officials remind drivers to be careful in these areas, because smoke can reduce visibility.
