ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – A person was killed and another was seriously injured Wednesday night in a single-car crash in Alachua County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Robert Cato, 20, was killed and Alyssa Gifford, 22, was seriously injured after they were ejected from the car in the crash on County Road 235, FHP said.

According to FHP, Cato’s car was traveling southbound on CR 235 when the car spun off the road, overturned and crashed into two trees.
Neither Cato nor Gifford were wearing seatbelts, FHP said.
Cato and Gifford were taken to UF Health, where Cato was pronounced dead, FHP said.
Gifford remains hospitalized in serious condition, FHP said.
