" The male asked him for change from a ten dollar bill or some sort of conversation over money. At some point during the interaction there, the suspect produced a handgun and shot the elderly male victim in the leg," said Sgt. Pfannenstein.

The suspect then took off in a dark-colored sedan. The victim was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

News4Jax spoke to a neighbor who says he called police around 4 a.m. Thursday morning when he heard screaming. "I just heard I was sitting on the porch smoking a cigarette and I heard a man hollering help, help and a few seconds later heard another one and went inside to get the phone and call 911. By the time I did that, I already heard sirens and everybody coming this way. It’s kinda freaky," said Scott Mann.

He says he has lived there for 10 years and hasn't heard of anything like this happening. "I figured it was a couple arguing or something I didn’t hear any cars or anything trying to get out of here figure its just a couple arguing and things got overheated"

Police are now searching for the suspect.
