AP: Possible attempted coup in Turkey

Prime minister says 'there was an attempt'

 

A group within Turkey’s military has engaged Friday in what appeared to be an attempted coup, The Associated Press reported.

"It is correct that there was an attempt,” Prime Minister Binali Yildirim told NTV television.

Yildirim provided no details, but said Turkey would never allow any "initiative that would interrupt democracy."

Earlier, military jets were heard flying over the capital, Ankara, the AP said.

Ambulances were seen in front of the Turkey's military headquarters, AP reported.
