Driver causes crash after running red light, Gainesville police say

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A 45-year-old driver who caused a crash late Monday night in Gainesville blew over four times the legal limit on a breathalyzer test, according to police.

Christopher Cannizzo is charged with DUI traffic crash, the Gainesville Police Department said.

Cannizzo ran a red light at NE 39th Avenue and North Main Street, causing a crash, and the officer who responded to the scene noticed Cannizzo smelled of alcohol and showed signs of impairment, police said.

After Cannizzo performed poorly on field sobriety exercises, he was arrested, GPD said.

His breath samples registered .340 and .332, over four times the legal limit, police said.

He is being held without bond in the Alachua County Jail.
