Groups want feds to get involved in Trump University case

Progress Florida calls for federal investigation

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Trump University -- a for-profit education system that has landed Donald Trump in hot water -- continues to be a thorn in Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi's side.

Left-leaning groups in the state want the feds to get involved.

Bondi officially endorsed Trump for president in March.

"I have been friends with Donald for a while," Bondi said. "We need someone who can lead."

But fast forward four months, while the Republican National Convention is in full swing, one thing that continues to pester the attorney general is a non-investigation into Trump University.

Damien Filer with Progress Florida said thousands of Floridians were swindled.

"Floridians complained about their involvement with Trump University. Pam Bondi received the campaign contribution from one of Donald Trump's foundations and now there's no follow-up action to investigate," Filer said.

Progress Florida submitted 6,000 petition signatures to the U.S. Attorney General's office Wednesday and called for a federal investigation.

Bondi is scheduled to speak in a prime time role Wednesday night for Trump.

"We want there to be an open door, an open book policy to see what really happened here," Filer said.

Bondi's office said it received a request for comment, but has not officially responded to the calls for an investigation.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott was also scheduled to deliver a speech Wednesday night on behalf of Trump.
