Man seriously injured in fight outside saloon dies

Police found man unconscious in Keystone Saloon parking lot

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – A 45-year-old Melrose man who was critically injured after Clay County deputies said he was involved in a fight Sunday in the parking lot of Keystone Saloon has died, the sheriff's office said Wednesday.

Michael Eaton was taken off life support Tuesday night, deputies said.

Officials said they found Eaton unconscious in the parking lot after a call at around 2:30 a.m. Witnesses told police Eaton had been involved in a fight with as many as a dozen people. There were no obvious physical signs of injury to Eaton other than his being unconscious, deputies said.

Deputies performed CPR on Eaton until Clay County Fire Rescue arrived and took him to Shands Hospital in Starke.

Deputies have spoken with witnesses and some of the people involved in the fight. The incident is still under investigation, and detectives are working to identify everyone involved in the large group.
