Planet will undergo 'polar flip'

The theorists claim the earth is about to undergo a "polar flip," which would cause subsequent global earthquakes that would destroy our planet. NASA explains a "polar flip" occurs when the Earth's magnetic field reverses. This phenomenon happens about once every 200,000 to 300,000 years, but it's been twice as long since the last reversal. NASA says there's nothing to be worried about.

"Many doomsday theorists have tried to take this natural geological occurence and suggest it could lead to Earth's destruction," said NASA. "But would there be any dramatic effects? The answer, from the geologic and fossil records we have from hundreds of past magnetic polarity reversals, seems to be 'no.'"
