Man shot at Philips Highway motel

Police still looking for shooter

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man was hospitalized with serious injuries after a shooting early Tuesday morning at the Mt. Vernon Motor Lodge on Philips Highway, according to Jacksonville police.

The shooting occurred about 4 a.m. The victim, who has not been identified, was taken to UF Health Jacksonville.

Police had no information about a motive and were looking for the shooter.

As Jacksonville Sheriff's Office homicide detectives and crime scene investigators were working, the northbound lanes of Philips Highway were blocked at Emerson Street about 7 a.m. 

In the last six months, there have been a number of reported crimes, including 13 thefts, 23 assaults and nine robberies.
