JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 24-year-old Jacksonville man was convicted this week of armed robbery in a January 2013 incident at a Zaxby's on University Boulevard.

Joshua Antwan Meeks was also found guilty of attempted armed robbery and aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a law enforcement officer.

In January 2013, the victims were at Zaxby’s on University Boulevard when Meeks approached them in the parking lot with a gun.

Meeks then threatened the victims and demanded their belongings. The victims fought back, but Meeks managed to steal a purse and vehicle from one of the victims.

A few days later, Meeks was involved in a hit-and-run accident while driving the stolen vehicle. He was detained after leading officers on a high-speed vehicle chase.

Meeks now faces up to life in prison. He will be sentenced the week of Sept. 6.
