MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A student in Marion County was arrested Friday after a shotgun was found in his vehicle in a school parking lot, according to the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

The officer searched the vehicle and located 21 rounds of ammunition as well (pictured).

The student told deputies he forgot to take the shotgun out of his truck, MCSO said.

No threats were made and there was no indication the student had intentions of causing harm to other students or staff.

“Marion County Public Schools has a no tolerance policy for weapons on campus," said Superintendent George Tomyn. "Our students know weapons, especially firearms, are never appropriate or allowed at school.”

Tomyn said students can face expulsion for bringing weapons to campus.

The student was arrested and charged with bringing a weapon on school property. He was transported to the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center.

His age was not immediately released.
