Green Acres fire still burning near State Road 16

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol reminded drivers Sunday that the Green Acres Fire is still burning and the resulting smoke may affect visibility when driving in the area.

The Florida Forest Service says the Green Acres Fire on I-95 near State Road 16 in St. Johns County is 90 percent contained.

The fire is burning along Green Acres Road, which is just south of State Road 16.

Florida Forestry officials believe the fire started from someone burning debris and that person was issued a warning.

The Florida Division of Forestry said the 1 acre fire is in a swamp and is not threatening any buildings.

Smoke is drifting across I-95 and the Florida Highway Patrol is monitoring traffic conditions.
