Dry conditions fuel Marietta brush fire

Officials say fire may have been started by spark from passing train

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Dry conditions were a factor for crews battling a brush fire in the Marietta area on Jacksonville's Westside Monday evening, authorities said.

The Florida Forest Service and firefighters responded just before 8 p.m. to the area off Commonwealth Avenue near Imeson Road.

Nearly two hours later, firefighters said they were able to contain the fire that burned about 5 acres.

According to fire officials on scene, the fire may have been started by a spark from a passing train.

Crews will continue to monitor the fire overnight.
