Man charged in hit-and-run that injured motorcyclist, deputies say

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. – A man has been charged with a felony in a hit-and-run crash Sunday night in Clay County that left a motorcyclist injured, deputies said.

According to the Clay County Sheriff's Office arrest report, the motorcyclist, Michael Schmidt, suffered road rash and cuts to his face after he was hit from behind by a silver Toyota about 8 p.m. on Russell Road in Green Cove Springs.

Deputies said witnesses helped identify the driver of the Toyota as 30-year-old Chris Blache of Green Cove Springs who was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving injury and careless driving.

Schmidt, who was helped by motorists who witnessed the crash, is expected to recover, deputies said.
