St. Augustine man claims share of Florida Lotto jackpot

Carl Benedict claims $8M share of $16M jackpot, officials say

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – A St. Augustine man has claimed his $8 million share of the $16 million Florida Lotto jackpot from a drawing held Aug. 24, lottery officials announced Wednesday.

Carl Benedict, 69, chose to receive his winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $6,051,759.12, the Florida Lottery said.

Benedict purchased his ticket from a Publix at 125 Jenkins Street in St. Augustine. Lottery officials said the retailer received a bonus commission of $40,000 for selling the winning ticket.

Total ticket sales for the jackpot generated more than $13.7 million for the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund, officials said.

The next Florida Lotto drawing will be held at 11:15 p.m. Wednesday with a $3 million jackpot.
