ST. AUGUSTINE,, Fla. – A water main break closed part of State Road 16 near U.S. 1 Tuesday evening.
Eastbound lanes of SR-16 near the railroad tracks were blocked while crews from the city of St. Augustine worked to repair the break.
An official with the Florida Department of Transportation told News4Jax it happened around 10 p.m. and caused ten feet of one eastbound lane and feet of the median to crumble.
Traffic to U.S. 1 is being detoured to Lewis Speedway.
One eastbound lane remained closed Wednesday morning and DOT estimated it would be mid-afternoon until it was reopened.
It is unknown what caused the break or how many people were affected.
