JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville police officer was taken to the hospital Sunday night after getting into a crash while responding to an armed carjacking downtown.

Around 10 p.m., an undercover unit was pursuing a suspect vehicle. Another officer was called to assist that undercover unit and was driving east on 6th Street when she was hit by a car traveling north on Laura Street.

"Officer Shirley Green was transported to the hospital for precautionary reasons. The driver of the second car reported no injuries," Officer Christian Hancock said.

Traffic homicide detectives were still trying to figure out who caused the crash.

The suspect or suspects involved in the carjacking were apprehended at a different location and not involved in the crash.

"When somebody calls for assistance, we're trying to get to a location and sometimes we don't want everyone to know we're coming. I don't know how close she was to that incident as well... She was just trying to get there, but she was not running in an emergency capacity at that time," Hancock said.
