St. Johns County man stabbed girlfriend in domestic dispute, deputies say
Steven Dobish, 34, being held on $150,000 bond
ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – A man arrested Friday in connection with a domestic disturbance in the Samara Lakes subdivision of the World Golf Village stabbed his girlfriend multiple times in the kitchen of his home, according to St. Johns County documents.
Steven Jonathan Dobish, 34, was charged with attempted second-degree murder and aggravated battery with serious injury with a weapon.
According to the sheriff's office, a man brought a 31-year-old woman to Baptist South Hospital with serious injuries Friday afternoon. She was then airlifted to UF Health in Jacksonville for further treatment.
A witness wrote down the man's vehicle and tag information and called the sheriff's office, investigators said. Deputies said they then went to Dobish's home on Wynfield Circle.
After questioning, Dobish, who was out on bond for previous domestic violence charges against the same woman, was booked into the St. Johns County Jail, deputies said.
According to the arrest warrant, Dobish told deputies that after his girlfriend said she wanted to end their relationship, he picked up a knife, intending to kill himself.
He told deputies there was a struggle for the knife, and that's when he stabbed the woman in the neck. She also had defensive wounds on her hands, according to the report.
Dobish had a no contact order from the previous domestic battery charges, but the two continued seeing each other, deputies said.
A man claiming to be the victim's estranged husband said his wife is the mother of two girls.
"It's extremely scary when you get a phone call and they can't give you any details other than she suffered serious injuries," the man said.
He said learning about his wife's condition was heartbreaking. He immediately rushed to the hospital to be by her side.
"No matter what the situation we've been through, I've always wanted the best for her and I love her," he said. "She's still the mother of our children."
