Three days after it was commissioned, the USS Montgomery suffered engine failures at sea and pulled into Naval Station Mayport under its own power Tuesday for repairs, according to Navy officials.
Officials said two problems occurred within 24 hours while the ship was on its way from Mobile to San Diego.

The Navy's fleet of littoral combat ships has been in an engineering safety stand-down because of ongoing issues.
The Navy announced last week that four additional littoral ships would be stationed at Mayport, which will the total to 12 when the Navy's newest fleet of combat ships is complete.
