Deputy under criminal, internal investigation in Alachua County

Investigation launched into deputy's use of force

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – The Alachua County Sheriff's Office launched a criminal and internal investigation into a deputy's use of force on Friday.

ACSO deputies responded to the 14400 block of Northeast State Road 26 on Sept. 29 to a report of a suspicious person. The person was sitting in a ditch by the road in front of a residence.

Deputy Dominic Bevilacqua employed a use of physical force on the person as a result of the encounter, deputies said.

Based on an initial review of dashcam video and photographs, a criminal investigation was ordered by Alachua County Sheriff Sadie Darnell.

Bevilacqua has been placed on administrative suspension pending the outcome of parallel criminal and internal investigations, deputies said.

ACSO said the case is an open and active investigation, therefore additional information regarding the incident was not released.

Bevilacqua was hired in Jan. 2012 to the Patrol Operations Division, deputies said.
