FHP: Car hits police motorcycle in Alachua County

Officer taken to hospital with minor injuries

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – An officer-involved car accident left one with minor injuries in Alachua County Thursday morning.

Florida Highway Patrol said Officer Jeffrey Boyd was traveling north on Northwest 142nd Terrace toward the intersection of U.S. Highway 441 on his Alachua Police Department motorcycle with his emergency equipment activated.

According to FHP, as Boyd was approaching the U.S. Highway 441 intersection, southbound traffic stopped to yield the right of way to him.

However, the driver of a car failed to stop or yield the right of way to Boyd's emergency vehicle, resulting in the driver's right back door being hit by Boyd's motorcycle, troopers said.

Boyd was taken to UF Shands with minor injuries, troopers said.

FHP said the driver was charged with failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.
