Police said she was crossing NW 17th Street, approaching the intersection of W. University Avenue, when she was struck by a garbage truck that was turning right onto University Avenue.

Traffic homicide detectives are combing through evidence, including detailed witness statements to determine exactly how the crash occurred. At this point, it is not clear who had the right-of-way at the intersection at the time of the crash.

The road was closed until just before noon while investigators worked the scene.
