FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. – An 11-year-old boy who told deputies that a man tried to lure him into his car Wednesday morning made up the story because he didn't want to go to school, according to the Nassau County Sheriff's Office.

The boy told deputies that he was walking to his bus stop on Bonnieview Road just after 8 a.m. when a dark gray car pulled alongside him, and the driver told him to get in the car.

"There was a guy behind me, so I went to the left because I didn't want to get run over. And the guy went in front of me and he stopped and pulled down his window. And I kept walking because I thought he was going to do something else, and then he just told me to get in his car," the boy told News4Jax.

The sixth-grader said he ran home to tell his father, who called the Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Bill Leeper said the boy will not be charged with filing a false police report.
