Man shot during overnight robbery

Victim tried to grab robber's gun

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man was shot during an armed robbery just after midnight Sunday on Jacksonville's Southside, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

A 32-year-old man who called police said he had been shot at Three Fountains Apartments on Barnhill Drive, just off of University Boulevard South.

The victim told officers he was approached by two men as he got out of his car. The victim said one of the men pointed a handgun at his head and demanded money. Police said the victim handed over cash, but then tired to grab the suspect’s handgun. After a brief struggle, the suspect shot the victim twice -- once in the stomach and once in the leg, officials said.

Both suspects then fled the scene on foot, officials said.

Paramedics took the victim to the hospital, where he is expected to recover.

The victim described the men as two black men; one was wearing a black shirt and blue jeans, the other was wearing a blue shirt and blue jeans.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
