Porfirio Torres faces mandatory life sentence

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. – A 41-year-old man was convicted of the 2013 murder of an Interlachen man, the State Attorney's Office announced Thursday. 

Porfirio Correa Torres was convicted of first-degree murder and false imprisonment charges after a four-day trial in Putnam County Court.

Torres shot Eric Santiago, 26, on July 25, 2013, then beat him with a metal lawn ornament. Santiago was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Prosecutors said Torres has a lengthy criminal history, including prison stints for robbery with a deadly weapon, fleeing police and other felony convictions. 

Torres faces a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole. His sentencing hearing is set for 9 a.m. Dec. 21.
