Deputies: Middleburg man arrested after Thanksgiving shooting

Man, 28, shot in stomach on Thanksgiving after dispute, deputies say

MIDDLEBURG, Fla. – A man was arrested Thursday night after another man was critically injured in a shooting at a Middleburg home that followed a dispute on Thanksgiving, according to the Clay County Sheriff's Office.

Joshua Magruder, 24, of Middleburg is charged with attempted murder, Clay County Jail records show.

Deputies said a 28-year-old man was shot in the abdomen about 8 p.m. in the middle of Raccoon Run after an argument with Magruder.

The victim, whose name has not yet been released, was taken to Orange Park Medical Center in critical condition, deputies said. The hospital was on lockdown briefly, but hospital officials said that was standard procedure when there is a shooting victim coming into the hospital.

Neighbors told News4Jax Friday that the man's not doing well.

"It's kind of out of the ordinary for this area here. We expect that more down in Jacksonville, but it's really out of the ordinary here," said Scott Birchfield, a resident in the area.

According to court records, Magruder previously was arrested in 2015 on possession of prescription drugs and drug paraphernalia charges. He is still on probation for that offense.

Family members said Thursday's incident had nothing to do with drugs.
