ATLANTA – Flags at the Georgia Capitol building and grounds will fly at half-staff Tuesday to honor a deputy U.S. marshal killed earlier this month in a shootout with a fugitive in southeast Georgia.
Patrick Carothers was deputy commander of the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force for the U.S. Marshals Service. He died Nov. 18 after being shot twice during a hunt for a fugitive in rural Long County.

Gov. Nathan Deal ordered flags at the Capitol in Atlanta to be lowered to honor Carothers and mark the day of his burial. A funeral was held Saturday in Georgia, and Carothers will be buried in Luray, Virginia, where he graduated high school.
Carothers was with the Marshals Service for 26 years and was married with five children.
