High visibility crosswalk being installed in Fernandina Beach

NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. – Construction is scheduled to begin next week in Nassau County to install a crosswalk with added lighting on State Road A1A (SR 200) at Citrona Road, the Florida Department of Transportation announced Friday.

Push-buttons will trigger high-visibility flashing beacons and street lights to alert traffic when a pedestrian plans to cross State Road A1A at Citrona Drive.

There may be temporary lane and sidewalk closures along the corridor throughout the duration of the project, except on Fridays from 6 a.m. to Sundays at 9 p.m. when no lane closures are expected.

FDOT says every effort will be made to minimize the impact to the nearby school and traffic flow in the construction zone.

The 35 mph speed limit will be maintained during construction.

This project is scheduled for completion in mid-February 2017, weather permitting, at a cost of $150,000.

The project was awarded to American Lighting Signalization.
