JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 16-year-old boy was arrested Friday after an armed carjacking that led to a police chase on Interstate 95, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Eric Davis is charged with carjacking and fleeing/eluding law enforcement.

Police were called to investigate just before 7:30 p.m. Thursday on Clyde Drive after a woman was carjacked at gunpoint.

The carjacker then took her keys and drove off in her 2015 Ford Escape, police said.

Several hours later, an officer was patrolling the area of Emerson Street at I-95 about 12:50 a.m. Friday when he spotted the Ford Escape and radioed for more units.

As the officer initiated a traffic stop on I-95 just south of the Bowden Road overpass, the driver of the SUV began to speed up, trying to flee, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The officer performed a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle, resulting in the cruiser smashing against a guard rail along with the SUV.

That's when Davis exited the driver's seat and began to run off, police said.

K-9 units were called to track him and Davis was later found in a wooded area off Mustang Road and taken into custody, police said.
