Family, friends lay woman killed in mass shooting to rest

Xacia Burnem,18, was shot, killed in Cleveland Arms Apartments mass shooting

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The funeral for an 18-year old woman killed in a mass shooting at the Cleveland Arms Apartments was held Saturday at the Household of Faith Church.

Xacia Burnem was shot and killed on Nov. 13. Police consider Burnem’s boyfriend, David Anderson, 21, a person of interest in the case. He is being held on $500,000 bail.

Before friends and family laid Burnem’s body to rest, one of the most emotional parts of her service was during the reflections.

“I just miss her so much, y’all ... but she was so funny,” an attendee said. “I don’t know what to say. I love her so much.”

One by one, those closest to Burnem shed tears and shared laughter as they remembered her life.

“She had such a kind spirit. And it speaks for itself,” an attendee said. “Look at the church. She was a kind person.”

Burnem went to Sal Tech Charter High School and had dreams of becoming a doctor. Although she had big dreams, she was very aware of the present, showering those around her with affectionate jokes and love.

“One thing I can say about Xacia, she was a loving person,” an attendee said. “She cared about everybody. She… I’m gonna miss her.”
