Congestion from single-car crash causes 2 more crashes

SUWANNEE COUNTY, Fla. – Several people were injured Tuesday after several vehicles crashed in the area of State Road 47 and Brentwood Way.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 21-year-old woman in a station wagon was driving south on SR 47 when she drove off the shoulder of the road in an attempt to missing hitting the back of a vehicle that had stopped in front of her. The woman in that vehicle was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Troopers said following that crash, congestion on the roadway caused a 67-year-old man who was driving a Ford car to come to a stop. A 16-year-old girl in a Honda CRV behind him did not stop in time and struck the back of his car.

The FHP said a man in a van traveling behind the CRV came to a stop after the crash, but a man in a Ford Explorer behind him failed to stop and collided with the back of the van. Two people traveling inside the Explorer were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

SR 47 traffic was blocked due to the crash.

The driver of the station wagon was charged with failing to maintain a single lane and the 16-year-old girl and the man driving the Explorer were charged with careless driving.
