JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A burglar was arrested Thursday in an attic on the Northside after he was found barricaded in the laundry room by the homeowner, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.

According to police, 28-year-old Marcus Hull was attempting to burglarize a home when the homeowner came home during the burglary. Hull barricaded himself in the laundry room using a vacuum cleaner and a broom to bar the door, police said.

Hull then pried off some of the ceiling tiles and climbed into the attic, where officers found him and convinced him to surrender, officials said.

Authorities said Hull was covered in mud when he was arrested, and told police that he was hiding because someone was trying to kill him. He also told police that he’d been doing drugs.

Hull was taken to the Duval County Jail and is charged with burglary.
