Local band of first responders will play at presidential inauguration

Group fundraising to pay for trip

PALM COAST, Fla. – A band of first responders from the Central Florida area has been selected to perform at the presidential inauguration parade on Jan. 20 in Washington, D.C.

Coastal Florida Police & Fire, Pipes & Drums, based in Palm Coast, was established in 2000 and comprises active and retired law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMS and military veterans who have served across Florida and the country.

All 40 members of the band plan to attach a mourning flag with the name of an officer who has died to their bagpipe or drum as a way to dedicate their performance to first responders who lost their lives in 2016.

Though the presidential inauguration committee chose Police & Fire, Pipes & Drums to represent Florida, it has not provided the group with any funding, so the band is asking for the public's help through GoFundMe and a fundraiser day on Jan. 8.
