Wounded man drove himself to Speedway after robbery, police say

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man who was shot Thursday night in a reported robbery drove himself to the Speedway gas station on Atlantic Boulevard at Art Museum Drive to call for help, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Police said the man, whose name was not released, was at an unknown location when he was approached by someone who demanded money before shooting the victim and running away. It's unclear if the suspect got away with any money.

Police had no description of the suspect.

The man, who suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, drove himself to the Speedway, where he called for help about 8:30 p.m.. He was taken to a hospital by Jacksonville Fire Rescue personnel.

That same Speedway was robbed by a masked gunman accused of robbing at least 11 businesses in the last two weeks.

It was also the site of a fire Dec.18 that was ignited when a car crashed into one of the station's gas pumps.
