Pedestrian critically injured in crash on Atlantic Boulevard

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A pedestrian was struck by a car and critically injured early Sunday morning in the city's Regency area, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said. 

According to police, at around 2:25 a.m., the man was hit trying to cross Atlantic Boulevard near the intersection of Anniston Road, just east of Monument Road. The man did not appear to be using a crosswalk when he was hit, officials said.

The man was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries, officials said. 

Traffic homicide units were called to the scene to investigate the crash, officials said. 

There was no information is given regarding the driver.
