Duke plans North Florida solar project

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Duke Energy Florida will build a solar power plant in Suwannee County that it plans to have in operation by the end of 2017, the utility announced Wednesday.

The plant will be built on 70 acres near Live Oak, east of the existing Suwannee River Power Plant, the announcement said.

The facility is planned to produce 8.8 megawatts of power, which would be enough for about 1,700 homes at peak production.

Duke also has solar facilities in Taylor and Osceola counties.
