FHP: Man drives off after hitting state fire marshal vehicle

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – An 84-year-old Ponte Vedra Beach man drove off after hitting a state fire marshal's office vehicle Thursday on Jacksonville's Westside, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported about 5 p.m. on southbound Interstate 295.

Troopers said Jerry Kelly was driving an Audi A3 when he hit with the rear of a state fire marshal's office vehicle that was stopped in traffic.

After the collision, Kelly continued driving until he was pulled over by the officer driving the vehicle that he struck, according to the FHP report.

Kelly is charged with careless driving and leaving the scene, the Highway Patrol said.
