1 dead, multiple hospitalized in San Antonio mall

Police say 1 robber at large

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – San Antonio police said one person is dead and five were hospitalized after a shooting at Rolling Oaks Mall.

Police Chief William McManus said it was a robbery gone wrong. He said two people tried to rob a Kay jewelry store and then fled. As they were fleeing, they encountered two people who tried to intervene.

One of the people who tried to intervene was then shot and killed by one of the robbers. The other person had a concealed carry weapon and shot one of the robbers.

The second robber shot people as he fled the scene. Only two other people were shot by the second robber. Two people were taken to the hospital for chest and labor pains. 

McManus said the stores are locked down while investigators search the mall. He said the mall is secure and the people in the mall are safe. They are being escorted out as police continue investigating.

Police are still searching for that second robber. Multiple agencies are assisting.
