FHP: 1 dead after multi-vehicle crash in Fleming Island

Deadly crash shuts down northbound lanes, 1 southbound lane of US 17 for hours

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – One person has died after a multi-vehicle crash Wednesday night in Fleming Island, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers responded just before 7 p.m. to the crash involving five vehicles on U.S. 17 near Copper Stone Drive.

State troopers said 60-year-old Oscar Daniels-Borbua was killed when his car crossed the median and slammed head-on into another car. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died, troopers said.

Two other cars were involved and two other people suffered minor injuries.

All northbound lanes and one southbound lane of U.S. 17 were blocked for several hours while the Highway Patrol investigated.
