Troopers say cause believed to be medical related

A 63-year-old man was critically injured after his car struck a tree on U.S.1 Wednesday afternoon, according to The Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the man's car was stopped at the intersection of U.S. and Shores Boulevard when it suddenly began to slowly move across the intersection.

The car continued across the intersection and into the grass on the west side of U.S. 1, accelerating slightly.

Troopers said the car continued up the embankment to the edge of a Walgreen's parking lot, where it then struck a small tree before stopping.

The man was transported to UF Health in critical condition, troopers said.

FHP said the cause of the crash was believed to be medically related.

Troopers have not identified the man and are working to notify his next of kin.
