JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A woman stole two packages of meat from Houston’s Meat Market, and as the arresting officer was working on his police report, the suspect removed one of her handcuffs, opened the cruiser door and took off, authorities said Monday.
Laura Addair, 38, committed the theft on Friday, at the market on New Kings Road, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. Police said Addair had tucked the packages of meat into her purse.
At some point after Addair was taken into custody, she was able to remove the handcuff, reach through the window cage of the police cruiser and open the door, police said. She was arrested a short time later at a home on Harrell Street.
Addair has been charged with escape and the theft of items worth less than $100. She’s being held in jail without bond.
Addair, of Jacksonville, had just gotten out of jail Jan. 28, according to jail records. She had been behind bars previously on charges of DUI, cocaine possession and failing to stop at a red light.
