GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A man was killed Saturday in Gainesville when he was run over by a car in a parking lot, dragged and pinned beneath the vehicle, police said.

According to the Gainesville Police Department, Malik Davis, 23, stumbled as he walked between two parked cars just before midnight Saturday in the parking lot of The Ridge Apartments on SW 24th Avenue.

Davis fell into the traffic lane of the parking lot and a vehicle ran over him, dragging him several feet, and Davis became pinned under the car, police said.

Bystanders tried to move the car off him and called for help. When Gainesville officers and Gainesville Fire Rescue personnel arrived, they were able to lift the vehicle and remove Davis. Firefighters treated Davis, but he died at the Shands Hospital emergency room.
