Man shot in armpit in critical condition

Man hospitalized with gunshot wound from rifle, police say

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 34-year-old man shot in his armpit Thursday night in a Mandarin neighborhood was in critical condition Friday, according to the hospital.

Police responded to Bigtree Circle West, off San Jose Boulevard north of Interstate 295, just before 10 p.m., and found David Majewicz shot in the doorway of the home.

According to the incident report, which does not name the shooter, Majewicz was shot by a rifle.

He was taken to Orange Park Medical Center with serious injuries, police said.

The home where Majewicz was found belongs to someone else, who was listed as a witness in the report. Majewicz's girlfriend is also listed as a witness.

One resident said he heard some yelling before the shooting.

"We were outside and all of a sudden we heard about four pistol shots and we heard a shotgun,” said Dan Leonard IV. "The next thing you know, like five minutes later, cops just came rolling down the street."

Police said some people were detained, but there was no information on any arrests.

The aggravated battery and crime scene units were at the scene overnight and will continue to investigate.
