Investigation of fatal home invasion shooting ends with shooter's death

Homeowner shot, killed man who kicked in door in Yulee, deputies say

YULEE, Fla. – A state investigation of a homeowner who shot and killed a 72-year-old man who kicked in the door of his home last July ended when the homeowner died of an overdose, News4Jax has learned.

Christopher Kuches was asleep on the couch of his Miner Road home in Yulee when Timothy Rasbeary attempted to enter it around sunrise, deputies said.

Deputies said the Kuches' 6-year-old son was also asleep in the home, along with Kuches' girlfriend.

Kuches had a pistol with him and fired one shot, killing Rasbeary, deputies said.

The two men knew each other, and Rasbeary had been at the home earlier in the day, deputies said. The men's relationship is not clear, and neither is the reason Rasbeary returned to the home and kicked in the door.

The Nassau County Sheriff's Office turned the fatal shooting case over to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to investigate, but the investigation was closed recently when Kuches died.
