JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 5-year-old boy on a scooter was hit by a pick-up truck Tuesday night in the North Shore neighborhood, his mother told News4Jax.

It happened just after 6 p.m. at West 63rd Street and Elwood Avenue. Police said Lorenzo Thompkins was riding a push scooter and "jumped in front of (the truck)."

He suffered a broken femur, a gash on his forehead, and cuts and bruises on his legs, arms and face.

His mother said Wednesday that he is still recovering in the hospital.
