Deputies investigate pair of smash-and-grab car burglaries at Treaty Park

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – Deputies are investigating a pair of smash-and-grab car burglaries at a park, the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office said.

The incidents happened Tuesday night at Treaty Park on Wildwood Drive off County Road 210, just southwest of St. Augustine.

Two women reported one window was broken on each of their vehicles. Each had left their purse in their car, and it was stolen along with their wallet and other belongings that were in the vehicles, deputies said.

In both cases, deputies said, the women left their purses in plain view.

News4Jax crime and safety analyst Gil Smith said that you should always take your purse with you, or at least make sure the purse is hidden in your trunk or elsewhere, where it can't be seen from outside the car.
