Remains found in Glynn County in 2015 IDed as accused criminal
BRUNSWICK, Ga. – Skeletal remains found Aug. 7, 2015, behind a home off Interstate 95 near the U.S. 441 exit have been identified as those of a 45-year-old Florida man who was wanted for robbing a bank in Jessup, Georgia, and car theft, fraud and other crimes in the Florida panhandle.
Glynn County police said the remains were identified through DNA analysis by the University of North Texas Health Science Center's Center for Human Identification as Bart Storm MacDonald, whose last known address was in Ft. Walton Beach.
The remains were found by homeowners in a wooded area off Picric Street, which is about 100 feet west of the I-95 offramp.
The initial autopsy report from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab in Savannah determined that MacDonald died of a gunshot wound to the head and estimated that it would take nine to 12 months to identify the person.
Police said MacDonald also used the name James Preston and was wanted by the Jesup Police Department for bank robbery at the Heritage Bank in September 2014. MacDonald was also wanted by the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office for fraud, burglary, larceny, vehicle, theft and dealing in stolen property.
