JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police on Wednesday arrested a 23-year-old man who is accused of punching, biting and strangling his girlfriend after the two got into an argument, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said.

According to police, Michael Anthony Jones and his girlfriend started arguing when she tried to leave his house.

When she began to gather her stuff, Jones became physical and pushed her into a corner of the room and wouldn't let her leave, police said.

As the two struggled, investigators said, he punched her in the back of the head, bit her on her arm and choked her until she passed out.

When she regained consciousness, she went outside and got in her car while Jones followed her with a knife, attempting to stab her tires as she drove away, according to police.

The Sheriff's Office said that Jones then got into his vehicle, caught up to her on Interstate 10 and rammed her car from behind several times.

She got off the interstate, went to her mother's home and called police. Shortly after, officers said, they spotted Jones driving on San Juan Avenue and pulled him over.

Jones was booked into the Duval County Jail and ordered held on $120,000 bond.
