JSO: 14-year-old arrested, others sought in hit-and-run crash, police chase

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 14-year-old is in custody and several other people are being sought in connection with a hit-and-run crash and police chase that took place in Northwest Jacksonville on Monday evening and involved an older-model green Honda Civic, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

About 7:15 p.m., police said, an off-duty officer at the Cleveland Arms Apartments saw the driver of the green car get into a crash and leave the scene.

The off-duty officer tried to stop the two-door car, but the driver kept going and a chase began, investigators said.

The green car then crashed on West 27th Street and several people inside, including the driver, took off. A 14-year-old passenger was taken into custody and later arrested on auto theft charges, according to police. News4Jax is not naming him because of his age.

The Sheriff's Office said it has reason to believe that a pedestrian was hit at some point.

Detectives continue to investigate, and ask anyone who witnessed either crash to come forward by calling JSO at 904-630-0500. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
