City department pushes to rebuild bulkhead at Riverfront Park

Councilwoman: Matthew made it unsafe to get near water's edge at San Marco park

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The city's Department of Public Works is pushing to rebuild the bulkhead at Riverfront Park in San Marco.

The department has requested $1.9 million from Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry's budget.

City Councilwoman Lori Boyer said the bulkhead is deteriorating and Hurricane Matthew made it unsafe to get close to the water's edge.

The mayor's office was expected to take up the issue on Monday. It will go to the City Council later.

There's no word on when the repairs would be done.
